Cottage Hair Accessories
Cottage Hair Accessories is a collection of 8 fun little patterns for scrunchies, bows, hair ties, and ribbons. They’re designed to turn leftover yarn into something cute and useful while keeping the knitting simple and satisfying.
Each piece is quick to make and easy to customize. Some are worked flat, others in the round, but all use approachable techniques and small amounts of yarn. They’re light on yardage and big on charm, making them great for gifting or just adding something handmade to your everyday look.
Design Details
The accessories use mostly knit and purl stitches with a few simple increases and decreases for shaping. The focus is on easy knitting and wearable results, not complicated techniques.
You can follow the suggested yarn weights or experiment. Each accessory is shape-based rather than gauge-dependent, so you are not limited to the listed yarn weights and can freely use scraps from your stash.

Construction Overview
These accessories are knit using knit and purl stitches with simple increases and decreases. Some are worked flat and seamed, while others are worked in the round.
Finishing techniques include mattress stitch, Kitchener stitch, and occasional simple assembly.
What’s Included
The pattern includes:
Scrunchies (with or without a decorative edge)
4 Hair Bows — small and large in both fingering and DK
Long Hair Tie — simple and soft for ponytails or messy buns
Bow Tie Scarf — an easy accent piece
Separate instructions are provided for fingering and DK weight yarns with recommended needles, yardage, and gauge for each accessory.
You can also mix pieces together. Try adding a bow to a scrunchie or layering a tie with a bun.
Yarn Notes
Fingering or DK weight scraps both work beautifully.
Wool and wool blends block best and hold their shape well. Cotton yarns are generally not recommended because they tend to collapse and lose structure.
You do not need to match gauge exactly. The accessories rely on shaping rather than sizing, so different yarns and gauges still create wearable results.
Wet blocking makes a noticeable difference, especially for bows and ties. Pin firmly and allow to dry completely to reveal the final shape and drape.
Needles & Gauge
Needles range from US 4 (3.5 mm) to US 8 (5.0 mm) depending on the accessory and yarn weight.
DPNs, circular needles, or magic loop may all be used.
Because these are small accessories, strict gauge is not critical. Use a needle size that creates a fabric you like.
