Deep Winter Sweater
Deep Winter Sweater is a richly textured seamless, topdown cable pullover made for cold days and long knitting evenings. Plush cables and a clean silhouette come together in a classic sweater, with shaping that keeps the fit balanced across sizes.
The fabric has depth and presence while staying light on the body. It’s the kind of project that stays engaging on the needles and quickly becomes a favorite to wear.
Design Details
Deep Winter features full cable panels across the front and back framed by stockinette sections that keep the silhouette classic and easy to wear. The proportions keep the texture bold and cohesive across the garment.
A cable detail travels down the sleeve and the sweater finishes with 1x1 ribbing. Instructions include both a foldable turtleneck and a classic crew neckline so you can choose the look you prefer.
Pattern Highlights
Seamless top-down construction with tailored shaping
Full cable panels across the front and back
Two neckline options: crew or foldable turtleneck
Warm, lofty fabric that feels comfortable to wear
Construction Overview
Deep Winter Sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down.
The front and back shoulders are worked flat with short row shaping to form the neckline and shoulder line. After the armholes, the body is joined in the round and knit to the hem with the cable motifs continuing throughout.
Sleeves are picked up and worked in the round with a shaped sleeve cap for a set-in look. The cable panel continues down the arm and finishes with a ribbed cuff. The neckline is worked last in either the crew or turtleneck option.
Yarn Notes
We knit our sample in Pickles Cozy, a blown yarn that gives the cables loft and softness while keeping the sweater comfortable to wear.
Fiber: 68% baby alpaca / 10% extra fine merino / 22% polyamide
Yardage: 120 yds (110 m) per 50 g
The gentle halo softens the texture slightly while still allowing the cable definition to show clearly.
Yarns with a similar airy construction work well, and a wool yarn held with mohair is also a great substitute as long as gauge is met.
