Fern Valley is inspired by crunchy PNW style and knit in an earthy green “Cryptid” sport-weight BFL from Leviathan Fibers. It's an easy, satisfying, approachable hat that feels just at home on the trail as it does in the coffee line.

The textured woven stitch is created with simple 1/1 cables, no cable needle required, and video tutorials are included to walk you through the special stitches.

Design Details

Fern Valley’s fabric looks intricate but settles into an easy rhythm. The woven texture comes from alternating right- and left-leaning mini cables that create a structured surface with plenty of stretch.

The crown shaping grows naturally out of the stitch pattern into a subtle star detail, and the finished hat can be worn folded for warmth or relaxed and slouchy.

Construction Overview

Fern Valley is worked in the round from the brim to the crown. The hat begins with a 1x1 ribbed brim, followed by the woven stitch pattern created from alternating 1/1 cables. The crown shaping transitions smoothly from the texture into a tidy star-shaped finish.

Yarn Notes

We knit our sample in Leviathan Fibers BFL Sport in the colorway Cryptid, a tonal Pacific Northwest green that suits the texture perfectly.

Bluefaced Leicester wool has a smooth, slightly lustrous character that shows off the cables clearly while staying comfortable for everyday wear. The sport weight keeps the hat warm without feeling heavy, and the stitch definition lets the woven texture stand out.
