Spicebloom is a top-down raglan sweater designed around a magnolia bloom that wraps across the body. The seamless construction lets you focus on color as the flower takes shape, making it an especially fun project for choosing a palette and making the design your own.

The motif uses a blend of intarsia and stranded colorwork, both explained in the included video tutorials. Intarsia simply places color exactly where you want it, and the tutorials walk you through it step by step so you can approach the motif with confidence.

Design Details

Spicebloom has a classic raglan silhouette with the bloom traveling across the body as the focal point. The scale of the flower is balanced across sizes so the motif reads clearly no matter which size you make.

Color becomes part of the process as you knit. The larger petals are worked with intarsia while smaller details are added with stranded stitches, creating definition and depth.

Pattern Highlights

  • Seamless top-down raglan construction

  • Intarsia and stranded colorwork guided by tutorials

  • Designed for palette building and color exploration

  • Compound raglan shaping keeps proportions balanced

  • Worsted weight creates a satisfying knitting pace

Construction Overview

The sweater begins with the neckline worked flat to shape the front and back. The yoke is then joined and worked in the round with compound raglan increases.

At the underarm the body and sleeves are separated. The magnolia motif is worked across the body using both intarsia and stranded colorwork. Sleeves are picked up and worked in the round, and the neckline ribbing is completed last so you can fine tune the fit.

Yarn Notes

Spicebloom is designed for worsted-weight yarn to give the flower clear definition and create a cozy fabric.

Our sample uses Magpie Fibers Quartet Worsted, a 100% superfine merino yarn with soft structure and strong stitch definition.

The pattern includes eight sample palettes to help with color planning, but you can also build a palette from your stash. Mixing yarns or holding DK with mohair can also work well if you like a softer surface.
