With sizes for kids and adults, Bindle Mittens are the perfect knit for the whole family. They’re quick, ridiculously fun to make, and perfect for getting a head start on handmade gifts. Pair them with the Bindle Hat for a matching set!

Design Details

Bindle is all about texture and stashbusting. The modified Latvian braid creates a woven effect that looks complex but is surprisingly simple once you get the motion down. Our step-by-step video tutorial makes learning the technique a breeze.

Each “color” consists of four strands of fingering weight yarn, so you can mix speckles, solids, fades, and whatever leftovers you have on hand. Contrasting ribbed cuffs and thumbs add a fun pop of color.

Pattern Highlights

  • Stashbusting using fingering weight leftovers held together

  • Unique woven texture from the modified Latvian braid

  • Video tutorials included

  • Flexible cuff options using fingering held four strands or DK held double

  • Three sizes from Kids to Adult L, perfect for gifting or matching family sets

Construction Overview

The mitten is knit flat from wrist to fingertips using a modified Latvian braid. Short rows create comfortable hand shaping. The mitten is then closed using a three-needle bind-off, and the top is pulled tight.

A cozy, well-fitting 1x1 ribbed cuff is worked in the round. Lastly, the thumb stitches are picked up and worked in the round.

Yarn Notes

This pattern is made for leftovers. Holding multiple strands together lets you combine small amounts of yarn into a cohesive fabric without needing perfect matches. Mix fibers, dyers, and colors to your heart’s content!

We love mixing one “anchor” strand that stays consistent with a rotating cast of leftovers, we include a tutorial to help you plan your colors and create combos with your stash! Speckles add depth, solids add structure, and fades can pull everything together.

The cuffs can be worked with four strands of fingering weight or two strands of DK held together.
