Summer Sorrel is the short sleeve tee version of our original Sorrel, designed for sunny days. It features a wide neckline finished with a cute I-cord collar, deeper dip stitches, and short row shaping at the back neck for a super comfy fit. Worked in a single strand of fingering weight yarn, the fabric has a light, relaxed fit. Video tutorials walk you through the yoke step by step for a fun and easy knitting experience.

Summer Sorrel keeps the signature dip stitch texture of the original, reworked for a lighter tee. The yoke uses a simplified increase method so the knitting flows. Worked seamlessly from the top down in the round the reverse stockinette body is knit inside out so you can knit stockinette instead of purling.

Summer Sorrel works beautifully as a single color, a soft fade, or a stash project using multiple colors.

Our sample uses three speckled skeins faded together, and a color blending chart is included to help you plan your fade and transition between colors with confidence. Construction Overview

Summer Sorrel begins with an I-cord collar and is worked seamlessly from the top down. Short rows shape the back neckline while dip stitches establish the yoke texture.

After the yoke reaches depth, stitches are separated for the sleeves. The body is worked inside out (so you get reverse stockinette fabric on the right side, without the purling!) in stockinette and finished with ribbing. Both body and sleeve length are customizable.

Yarn Notes

We knit our samples in Hello Stella Fibres Basic Stella Sock, a 2-ply fingering weight yarn that suits this texture especially well. The firm twist gives the dip stitches clear definition while still creating a lightweight fabric with soft drape.

Fiber: 80% superwash merino / 20% nylon

Yardage: 426 yds (390 m) per 115 g skein

Summer Sorrel works equally well in tonals, speckles, fades, or a single color.

US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needles

24 sts x 32 rows = 4" x 4" in stockinette in the round

I-cord cast on:

23 sts = 4" unblocked

21 sts = 4" gently blocked

Vertical dip gauge:

4 dips (7 rows) = 4"
